This is a self portrait of an early morning hunt whilst in Afghanistan. We were tracking down a Taliban Commander in Helmand Province.

Tips;
Just a simple duotone. Shadows accentuated with a high contrast, but low brightness. The photograph itself was not cropped, only re-sized. Utilise the frame of the camera, if you know you are not going to have time to edit later.

And with regards to the hunt...
We were successful.

The chin strap -is- done up. Beneath the shemagh. Come on mate, I know better than that. Its not vietnam.

As for the goggles, it was SOP for Herrick 11 down from Brigade HQ. Dust cover is on, so they don't reflect like mirrors. Besides, with the amount of rubber on your lid, whats the difference? Still a big black blob covering up the camo.

Kit procurement and looks only go so far. Conduct and professionalism on the ground is what counts. For example, when we took over soldiers in Paraang from -your- regiment at the end of Herrick 10.

Don't talk to me about chippy mate... we all have our moments.

This photo is really nice how did you manage to take it in the middle of a mission?

It was actually a freeze-frame from a moving video. My buddy Simon was wearing a Head-camera on the patrol. You can actually make out the film grain on the edges of the Opium Poppy grass.
